Re: Thoughts on technology

It's the same with laser printers. One can buy a laser printer at about the same price as one replacement toner cart. When one runs out, it's cheaper to buy a new printer, because then all the other toners are "refilled" as well.

Madness.

Re: Flying Cars! Just in time!

Ye what's with the landcruisers? What happened to give the little ba.. darlings a bicycle? To much like common sense? Kid would get exercise and learn a bit about road rules for future driving. Quite a lot of schools actually don't allow kids to come to school on bikes. There's a road safety issue ...

Re: Elite '4' Dangerous

I think the graphics engine in Oolite is easily capable of reproducing the kind of sights we see in ED. WIth full shaders and the addons for HD and shadered planets, I think Oolite gets pretty damned close. And we had planetary landings WAY before ED. If I'm being honest I still see Oolite as the sp...

I am actually considering to make an Oolite trailer if I get into that epic school with state of the art software and hardware.

But I might try something in blender.
Blender is pretty good for video making - I used it to make the intros for my twitch streams.

Re: Elite '4' Dangerous

If it had been single player it would have been awesome. If they'd taken the lore seriously, it would have been spectacular. As it is, it's occasionally fun, away from the network-y delays and mmo aspects, though curiously 'soulless' at times. Cheers, Drew. What he said. It's a good game. It looks ...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and onion sauce!

I tried CQC on Tuesday. I'm not overly fussed about it, to be honest, and it's not really my sort of gaming "bag" but as a responsible Beta Tester and blogger/streamer it behooves me to at least give it a go. Video of the stream is, as usual, available on my youtube thing . I quite enjoyed...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and thistles!

AND ANOTHER THING! ;-) Everquest, Star Trek Online and other MMORPGs have three tier systems. Free to play minimal content access, one-time fee intermediate content access and monthly subscription full content access. Should ED go down that route? In some ways, the "seasonal updates" metho...

I'll be keeping my beady eye on this... ;-)

Looks like an awesome project. Good luck with it.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and sales weasels!

Which bit was the lie exactly? Q: "Can you explain how the season of expansions works exactly and the lifetime expansion pass as well, so if I don't purchase the lifetime pass, will I have to pay for every expansion?" So the bit I was talking about then. I'll stand by the "people can...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and sales weasels!

So ED is now effectively subscription based - you just pay a 'seasonal' fee rather than a monthly fee. Unless you buy the lifetime pass. Then it's completely free. Disclosure: I'm still playing ED and I am actually enjoying myself, learning how to fight with FA off, but I don't expect this game to ...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and sales weasels!

I have a set of notes in a file called "not in the manual" on my computer which hypothesise about the sort of setting fans might have invented for Elite if it hadn't come with the Dark Wheel and the manual had been the traditional folded-A4 reference card, and they just had to work it out...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and other stuff!

Wow. Just. Wow.

Have a listen to my latest video for some of my thoughts on this situation. I kind of echo a lot of what you say here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Iwlh9Yx0kY (check at about 2h20m into the stream).

Starts off with a nice chat about Oolite then ends with me on a HUGE soap box.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and other stuff!

Well, if you would cast an eye over the chronicles of shulth (I can send you future chapters) not for mere spelling or grammar but world consistency. Then It would be appreciated. Lord knows your already a fundamental part of the books pre-written forward. I would be honoured. As long as it doesn't...
