Unless very well coded, could there even be a bug with wandering out of the "playing area" in regular space or witchspace?
Admittedly, this would probably require a very long trip to eventually cause the location values to flip over. 8)

The shot-up fleeing pirates also need a better strategy.
Straight-and-level may work if they're 10+ km away, but when they're <2 km away and I'm on their tail, they need to be turning-and-burning.

...So you could have a special coolant tank that drops laser and cabin temperature when you use it. Maybe like multi-missile racks, it wouldn't be a 1-shot but could even be depleted based on how overheated your ship is when you use it.
