Re: Looking ahead

There's no proof I've seen in any interview with Bell or Braben that they conceived Elite to be a "Space Sim" - if this is your starting point then I'm not surprised that you find the original concept of Elite to be limiting, you're looking for a Space Simulation where there isn't one. Pi...

Re: Looking ahead

FE2 and Elite don't have exactly the same gameplay for the very reasons you've given yourself. In FE2 your ship accelerated at X g for hours and hours and hours ( or minutes if you went to 10,000x normal time) - then there'd be a blip on the screen as a pirate went whizzing past, you'd lock on to i...

Re: Looking ahead

.and to all those who thought FE2 boring..!!? It's exactly the same gameplay, trading & fighting, just with a better range of playable ships and better environment detail.. The kinds of arguments you guys are making against it seem to be in the same vein as all those publishers who turned down ...

Re: Looking ahead

cheers all, no time to respond to every point but breifly - time acceleration (as in slowed perception) is easier to swallow than 'hyperspeed' getting 'mass locked', or maybe that's just me... Realism: with respect to where it really counts; where it adds rather than detracting. Realistic scale is m...

Re: Looking ahead

just wanna add my 2c to the scale debate - realistic environments only enhance playablitiy imho, if it detracts then something's wrong.. I'm new to Oolite but showing it off to a mate the other day, trying to drum up interest and had to go thru explaining why the scale's broken and that if he wanted...

Re: Pitching 3 sheets to the wind & wrestling with Griff..

..Oh and regarding keyboard accuracy - it's fine... i soon discovered the time rate control anyway (no doubt many a commander's dirty little secret heh)... but don't consider it cheating cos i live LIFE in bullet time baby, yeah, i'm like <snap> there, in the zone, in yer face, blink and you're dead...

Re: Pitching 3 sheets to the wind & wrestling with Griff..

excellenté, thx everyone, got it set up nicely now with Griff's and Neolite. Re. mouse, i could cope with yaw instead of roll (a la Frontier), but only ever played ArcElite emulated and find it too hard to adapt to..! Guess i'll just get by with the keyboard for now.. oh and fwiw: i get a solid 60f...

Re. mouse, i could cope with yaw instead of roll (a la Frontier), but only ever played ArcElite emulated and find it too hard to adapt to..! Guess i'll just get by with the keyboard for now.. If you press Shift+Ctrl+M instead of Shift+M to activate mouse control, you will have yaw instead of roll o...

Re: Headlights?

Cheers guys, no worries about the spotlights, no big deal (fingers x'ed mebe V2 will add this), and ditto the nebulae - they're not too gaudy i guess, still might have a poke round my planetinfo.plist later..

Re: Pitching 3 sheets to the wind & wrestling with Griff..

Cheers, saw the Cobra fix, was kind of hoping for the whole shebang but it looks like a case of editing umpteen files, hardly woth it.. it's just that first impressions moment, a Griffs-only parade would be that much more wow-factor. Just read that V2 will be officially Griffed tho so that sounds pr...

Headlights?

Enjoying the Deep Horizons Lights Down Mod and while docking on the dark side of a Coriolis got to thinking "wouldn't flood lights be cool?". Or an aimable spotlight or something... On that note, what about switchable "false colour" filters? This would switch off the kind of flas...

Pitching 3 sheets to the wind & wrestling with Griff..

New to the game, impressed but have two niggles: Control: I've seen some folk saying it's just a matter of practice but unfortunately my experience suggests otherwise; using keys (classic Beeb layout) i'm finding it's impossible to aim accurately (especially pitch - try zeroing on a star!). In Elite...
