Re: Wiki & Expansions Manager: authorising new accounts.

One other consideration that may be quite important - where do we stand with regards to personal information? If we were to make a copy of the database (and given it's of the order of 1GiB it's relatively small), what risks are there that the individuals copying this data could run afoul of privacy ...

Re: Wiki & Expansions Manager: authorising new accounts.

Hi Hiran, I totally agree with you - implementing ITIL practices is a tall ask even when you have a team of people who are being paid to actually do this. I see it coming down to trust. What would it take for someone to prove to the current owners of the various config items (the BB, the Wiki) that ...

Re: Wiki & Expansions Manager: authorising new accounts.

I'll admit you have my curiosity. What I do for work is administer what essentially boils down to a ticketing system for large enterprises. All that a large enterprise does with regards to managing their IT infrastructure won't be applicable to a volunteer enterprise such as the Oolite developer com...

Re: Wiki & Expansions Manager: authorising new accounts.

Bugbear has just intimated that he might just be an expert on rejigging tired systems such as ours... <snip> References: • phpBB update to 3.3.3 • Aftermath of wiki collapse Yeah umm I'm not sure what you have in mind. I can perhaps assist with looking at processes and the way things are done, but ...

Re: Why did you write that OXP?

Would it be offensive to anyone here if I put up an idea I want to make happen? Forgiveness being easier to obtain that permission, I will plod on regardless. Witchspace Maintenance (that's a working title. Not sure what I'll call it). This is inspired in part from my real life work. I work in IT pr...

Re: Unable to start 1.86 on Ubuntu 16.04

Hey Chomondely, I'm all good. New laptop purchased last year, been able to dual boot with Debian. I had some difficulties trying to compile from source but the distro's version of Oolite (v1.90) installed cleanly. I've been able to ressurect my old save from a few years ago. The Quantum Pelican 2 fl...

Re: Frontier Developments plc Full year trading update

I'm back. Been obsessed with the Battletech universe since that video game came out a few years ago. I'm still enjoying my turn-based giant robot stompy goodness but I'm getting an itch for an old friend. I wonder if my Boa Class Cruiser is still serviceable... But my reason for this rather bizzare ...

Re: Unable to start 1.86 on Ubuntu 16.04

Took a while but I've finally refreshed my laptop with Ubuntu 18.04. Still having grief unfortunately, but at least the behaviour is a bit different. Running Oolite v1.86 - Oct 25 2017 Latest.log contents Opening log for Oolite version 1.86 (x86-64) under Linux 4.15.0-20-generic at 2018-05-23 12:04:...

Re: Unable to start 1.86 on Ubuntu 16.04

This is the full log? How about the nightly ? Yep, that's the full log. Make sure you are installing the binaries from oolite.org and not from the distro repository. Downloaded 1.86 and 1.84 from oolite.org. Given that both versions are behaving the same, it could be that my Ubuntu build is...

Unable to start 1.86 on Ubuntu 16.04

Hi all, Decided to take my Cobra out from under the dustcloth, but I'm being denied before I can even get the game to launch. Following are the contents of my latest.log What I'm seeing is the icon appearing in the task bar, then it disappears after a few seconds. I've tried uninstalling / reinstall...

Santa vs Rudolph? Santa loses

(inspired by an r/showerthoughts topic...) ...all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names... So where the hell was Santa while this bullying was going on? He knows if you've been bad or good my arse!!! :x Then the old wino geriatric fart has the cheek to ask Rudolph for a favor on tha...

Re: Using a controller

Related to this - I started playing with an X Box One controller on my Ubuntu box. I've noticed some differences between using that and my Logitech 3D Pro, specifically with regards to the analogue joystick throw limits (not sure if that's the right terminology but I hope that I can communicate clea...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and the return

I’d also like to thank the community for your involvement cash. Fixed that for him! <chuckles> Man, that's harsh but true. I must confess my Cobra is back in the black again. I've decided that I want to see FD's rendition of a black hole, so I'm off for a short solo jaunt to Sagittarius A*. I hope ...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and Thargoids?

'Our' Drew is in the news.

My Cobra III is still under a dustcloth somewhere. It will probably take a day or so for the pending updates to be applied to my gaming rig if I ever get the urge to take it out again.

I don't have the time to commit to these big stories...

Yeah, the Cult of Josh has been reinvigorated. You have something there, Cody. In two weeks, the link I posted above now has 13 pages of replies, with lots of supportive flagellation by the community (admittedly, a community being supportive is a nice thing in these times so I won't criticise furth...
