Thanks for the offer. I think I'll stick with the current version on 1.65 for the time being.

Is it safe to play this version while doing Assassins?

Make sure you avoid the anarchies and feudal systems until you've got decent kit - they're where you'll find the most pirates. Corporate states and confederacies are safest.

Hmmm. If it works OK in applications other than Oolite, then I'm stumped :?

I use MildAudio rather than custom sounds, with no problems. Maybe you should try that OXP and see what happens; might help trace the fault anyway.

At the risk of sounding patronising, have you been to the Ubuntu Forums yet? They might be able to help if you're having trouble with your sound card.

This thread might point you in the right direction.

Are you getting OK sound in other applications or just Oolite?

I have no problem with sound when I play in Ubuntu - are you sure it isn't your sound card? Maybe the driver needs updating.

Right, that's definitely next on my list :)

NPC Supercobras are so large that blasting them from 20k before they have the chance to do the same to you is a bit of a doddle, I find.

I think chaos is right - IIRC the docking pattern was white and the witchspace one was multicoloured, and each had a different sound effect.

A "front view" of the docking bay à la BBC would be even nicer.

Should I still stick with 1.65 until I've finished Assassins, or has that issue been addressed?

I can't be 100% certain of this, but I think I get more sticky messages in XP than in Ubuntu (1.65 both times 'cos I'm in the middle of Assassins).

It's damn hard to get a bead on an IC. Is it just as hard for NPCs to hit you when you're in one?

That'd be well cool 8) In fact, quite a few of those would make good replacements for the rings.

Have you invested in the large cargo bay yet?In a cobra III, it increases your potential profit per run by 75%, and will soon pay for itself.

I'd completely forgotten about that feature on the BBC. I remember now
that the first time I managed to dock successfully, I was so impressed bythe view that I hit F0 to see it again and launched by mistake. At least I got some extra impromptu docking practice.
