Could also lock the controls for a second before entering hyperspace, ensuring that the singularity (or whatever) you are openning up is directly in front of you.

All games I ever played were a hell of a lot more fun when dying was a real threat. You had to be cautious, and getting in over your head and coming out of it alive was a real achievement. Wings for example. How many times did you hastily reboot before it could save your death to disk? How many time...

Anything that happens in game, that is rare to come across, adds to that whole sense that there are things out there to find. I'm sure most of us when we first played Elite were always excited at the prospect of coming across something new. For the most part, I think a lot of the OXP ideas shouldn't...

Hyperspace would be nice too. Although the Amiga was also just some concentric rings, the thing I found good about it was that it took about 5 seconds. When you are hyperspacing from a fight you are losing, those 5 seconds are a very peacefull relaxing moment to gather your strength for whatever you...

Well, nothing happens when you hit the letterbox (as you would expect since one of the best versions of the game had this), so the whole docking thing for me is a bit of a pointless transition :-) I know there were valid concerns about how to generate and maintain a list of docked ships in the hanga...

Silent running

Pirates hiding in asteroid fields, with their ship systems shut down. This makes them white popsicles on the scanner which an incautious commander might be inclined to ignore until he's far too close and they all power up and attack. Could the AI handle this trick? A fast ship such as a fer-de-lance...

Well, it is more in the Elite style to assume that bounty hunters, traders, and pirates are freelance like the player, and are roaming the galaxy looking for easy profit. This said, in Feudal and Multi-Government systems, it would add depth to see some of the in-system craft with some form of allegi...

I have an idea for this that might satisfy all parties. What if we make the radiation from the engine wake affect the sensors of ships caught in it. For the player, and for AI, they could instantly lose target lock (for AI this would have to also make them lose track of the primary and secondary thr...

Standard practice dictates that the MINIMUM spec is catered for without loss of performance. With that in mind, I would state that support for two buttons would be the norm, with optional bahaviours for other buttons. Since the general standard at the moment is 3 button + scroll wheel, that owuld b...

Sorry, I was going to do this over the weekend but glider maintenance took up all my tuits, and then it snowed and I had to go out with the camera (snow is so rare here, and in April, it's unheard of). I'll try to get to it this week some time (including Frantic's sound mod). I feel kinda bad playi...

Most modern mice (we all upgraded to optical at *least*) have buttons all over them. I'm always pissed when some game ignores all or some of them. I guess the best solution is to support keymapping to all mouse buttons (mouse3, 4, 5 etc) and also multimedia buttons, which appear on keyboards and mic...

Hunter Scanner

I'm probably going to be lynched for suggesting this, although I also have a sentimental attachment to the classic scanner, but since we have high resolutions shouldn't we be contemplating sticks that have a more sharp base to them? Currently we have something along the lines of: MMMM MM MM MM MM MM...

Actually, that's a fairly good point. Today drugs are generally measured in kilos too.

The street value of 1 metric tonne of peruvian marching powder would be about the value of a small planet!!
I can't say I ever bought a kilo of anything.

Enemies chickenning

This might have been mentioned by someone else already, but I 'd like to see a reduced chance that a formation member might chicken out and break formation. This could be from taking a glancing hit, or from a wingman being destroyed. I'll have a look and see if I can't do this mod myself, but I'd li...

Would be nice if the bar's disposition towards you was affected by your trip in. So if you killed a bunch of pirates, rescued a few traders and sustained heavy damage, more people would be willing to talk to you. How about a text interface? :-) *buy groigan drink -the groigan gets even more drunk an...
