wow, so it is actually a tunnel, modeled? I know, that's what shocked me, I had always assumed it was just a cheapo 2D colour cycling effect as in Elite. Instead it's like the warp drive malfunction in Star Trek I, or gate travel in Stargate. Now I'm assuming that the station docking sequence is th...

Witchjump 'feature'.
I was tailgating a Python as it made a witchjump. Unfortunately I bumped hard into one of its escorts as we both dived into the wormhole. The result was spectacular: I flew through the technicolour witchspace tunnel at an angle and passed through the side wall. For a second (wish I'd grabbed a scree...

Re: Rescuing Pilots
Furthermore, it seems odd that the insurance company would pay me. Wouldn't they rather have the pilot DIE so they don't have to buy him a new ship? Good point. But it is in the pilot's best interest to get rescued, so he probably chose a policy which included such a reward. I find it interesting t...

I had exactly the same problem, upon upgrading to 1.65 the energy bomb stopped working. My solution was to change the keyconfig.plist from: <key>key_energy_bomb</key> <string>9</string> to: <key>key_energy_bomb</key> <integer>9</integer> Which is odd because all the other entries work fine as type '...

Witchspacing near Torus station
As of 1.65, one is forced to go an unreasonable distance from torus stations (torus.oxp) before one can witchspace. In the screen shot below I'm on the planet's surface and I'm still not far enough away. http://neil.fraser.name/temp/torus.png Maybe I should buy a mining laser and try digging a hole ...

So can we gather it is just me then? Nope, I just got it. Oolite 1.65 Mac Dual-G4 1.25GHz OXPs: Behemoth, Lave, Tori, X-ships I am NOT using customsounds.oxp Was playing normally when suddenly all internal sound effects turned into deafening white noise. Tractor beam, laser shots, etc. I think the ...

If lasers would diminish in quality, all equipment should be included [...] Except for the cargo bay extensions. Can't think of any reason why cargo space would shrink over time. Unless one counts the accumulation of Trumble guano. If equipment would begin to fail, I'd want to choose for sp...

Only if you have infinitely precise eyesight and controls. Don't you? 8) But seriously, the beam size is expanding proportional to the distance. So difficulty should remain constant, no? That is, assuming one can see the ship at all. Hey, it just occured to me that the Mars Laser Communication Demo...

Well then, how about a hyperspace 'hop'? Use 0.2LY worth of fuel to initiate a small jump towards the sun (or another programmable point)? Side note: the Sun is 8.5LM (Light Minutes) away from Earth. Which is aprox 0.000016LY. However, one might imagine that there could be a 'capital cost' for cycl...

Yes, that's normal. When you get close to an object your tractor beam locks onto it and tries to drag it in. The beam is not very powerful and has to fight to reconcile your velocity against the object's velocity. After bouncing around at the end of an invisible string for a while, the object eventu...

The goal would be to get a placeholder image onscreen quickly, so just a bitmap scaled to the right size should do the job quickest and with minimal work. The visual effect of a wireframe replaced moments later by the rendered planet would look very Hollywoodish. People not reading this thread would...

I wonder if the image could be added after the screen itself has come up, so that even if it appeared with a short delay, it would not affect the usability of the screen? And if a green wireframe sphere was used as a placeholder image (for the second before the pretty planet was displayed), it woul...
