Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
Bullet Drive - can only travel in a straight line Shaky Drive - drive as though drunk! Somehow, I downloaded this unknowingly in my early Oolite days, and it made Torus drive utterly miserable until I eventually worked out what made my Torus so hokey . Hard Way - manouvering greatly inhibited (virt...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
Reasons to not be using torus drive: Mass-locked Mining Salvage Recharging Being mass locked in company would be valid non-torus use. Mining/Salvage as a reason would only be valid directly around quarry. The quickest and easiest way to and from quarry would be via Torus. I accept recharging as an ...

Re: Hard Eject
Yeah I had looked at the hard eject script and didn't see any way that it could possibly be differentiating items. I checked equipment.plist to verify the Cargo Stopper tech level, no luck despite markets well above that level. somehow-resolved solution But just now I have pulled into Vetitice (TL12...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
With that said, we really picked probably one of the most controversial mechanics issues to battle over. Issues that led to less dramatic gameplay changes would probably yield agreement. How the other guy rolls don't affect your game at all. Speak for yourself. How others play their single-player ga...

Re: Hard Eject
Bug report: So for the first time ever I recently ejected using this oxp, and as I had hoped just about everything was damaged on my new ship. But a mod item I've been testing, Cargo Stopper (GalCop Missions OXZ), was damaged. I don't see Repair: Cargo Stopper on any equipment lists even in high TL...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
If you don't like the torus, then maybe Power To Engines would be more your speed. I've seen it, might add and/or tweak it later. Reminder: the original reason for Redspear and I hashing out the reality of the Torus Drive started with my mention of " presumable realities " and Redspear su...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
The price of fuel would only matter early in a commander's career, when life is tough enough already. Early on, when every credit counts, fuel prices matter. But if/when you're making >500 credits profit per jump (on milk runs at least)...fuel costs would have to be silly to stop credits from going...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
Consider a challenge through in game observation: Try to prove that non-player ships never use a torus drive in the same system as the player. A couple of examples: 1. I can see them, not on scanner but as a glint out of range, not using it but flying at engine speed. They are not in company so the...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
My example concerned what should cost fuel , not how much should it cost . Yes but it is an example of a real-world incentive case. The economist in me is much more interested in the fact of any given incentive, disincentive, lack of any incentive than the specifics of it. Incentives are almost inv...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
Witch space fuel consumption could work differently of course but then should it? How so and why so when greater distance costs more fuel? OK let's take this example from a "presumable realities" perspective. And we'll use real life as a basis. If everyone could instantly teleport anywher...

Re: Perfectly balanced economics?
Remaining to-do list/wishlist : 1. Greater payout for Parcel/Passenger Contracts relative to assassin risk, then for distance, and finally far less reputation-relevant pay. 2. Much smaller base fees for Escort Contracts, much higher per bounty fee. (This makes sense because it correlates to actual ...

Re: Perfectly balanced economics?
So the fact that I have an aegidian account at all is the direct result of me not being able to find an economic balance with downloadable mods alone. That's not including the other minor deficiencies in my Oolite gaming -- economic easy money was the worst most despised one for me. I went all the y...

Re: Oolite essay: game lore, features and mechanics
Lower-profit commodities exist mainly to give freighters something to fill up on... Because the other commodities are less profitable, freighters get progressively less profit for each increase in cargo capacity. An Anaconda has far less utility than a Boa 2, due to its other limitations despite ha...

Re: A question of lore
I wouldn't buy a self-righteous vigilante a beer in the first place. Frankly you're lucky I don't shoot you up and spare your life to maintain technical clean status and leave you drifting in space 8) . I don't shoot anyone that hasn't shot at me or my clients and I play by my own rules. Enjoy your...
