Re: Quote of the week!

... time looking at the clouds is time never wasted! Thus spake Squadron Leader Ken Horn MBE (of the RAF's Mobile Met Unit). I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Clouds are really difficult to g...

Re: Oolite Wiki

To whomever is interested in how I created the index of artefacts: I just published the source code of the project at https://github.com/HiranChaudhuri/OoliteAddonScanner If the web project (https://github.com/HiranChaudhuri/OoliteOxpRepository) starts flying, the scanner may very well be assimilate...

I'd say that is some successful implementation...

Re: Cool OXPs for celestial objects

Hi all, So I understand that w/o any OXP all systems are made of just one star and one planet with a station. Is that correct? What are some ambience OXPs I can use that would give me following? 1) Different size and colour of stars 2) Actual distance of stars 3) Multiple planets 4) Different size ...

Does anybody know on what technologican level it is possible to get that equipment and how much it will cost?
TL8+, 3200cr.
On some high tech worlds I got something removed from my ship as the gadget was considered illegal.
Was that the manifest scanner or something else?

congratulations on making it to Elite ranking!
What? Already?
I liked to be considered 'deadly'. That sounds so much better than 'mostly harmless'.

Now my forum status is fairly out of sync with my Oolite commander's career...

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

"Sufficient frames" (in this case subentities) would be determined by the range and speed ("timing") of motion desired. If hiran imagines "moving wings" that change position slowly then that could be a lot of subentries but if it happens pretty fast then five might be ...

Re: OXP distribution

I created a proof-of-concept OXP Repository (POC). Although not yet fully usable it shall show how OXP distribution could happen. The (revolutionary) change is as follows: Until today, a developer creates an OXP. At some point he decides to publish it. So he create the OXZ, which requires a manifest...

Musings for v.1.92

Would this not be simpler, more fun and better for new players than mucking about with the EM? All we would need would be a new, introductory category, of Meta-OXPs. Or Oolite Worlds. Or scenarios? Or whatever. Well, I am not good with the story, the wordings or drawings. If I were to design spaces...

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

... would require the ability for a subentity model (or orientation) to change rather than for it to simply be removed. Or be replaced by another subent? Beyond my ken, anyway! To the player it would hardly be noticeable if huge amounts of static subentities would replace each other or one subentit...

Re: Musings for v.1.92

While I am thinking about the lifecycle for OXPs and the Expansion Manager, there may be something... 1) The list that the expansion manager downloads should have a time-to-live field. If that is set, the expansion manager would force the user to grab an updated list rather than keeping the downloa...

There are other ships with rotating elements like some versions of the Imperial Courier I think.

Don't forget however that if it can 'change shape' then it can be animated. The rest is just a matter of sufficient frames and appropriate timing.
Nice!

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

I THINK... that such a thing can be done via subentities (effectively models stuck to the main model). In fact dertien (who hasn't been around these parts for a while) did it years ago if I recall... moving bits! video of said moving bits! This is pretty close! The ship changes it's shape, and it d...

Re: OXP distribution

Ah... the legal problem was why I was asking. No, I'd be happier with all the oxp's (not the oxz's) collected somewhere too. I presume that of the 3 Oolite websites, that only the wiki is suitable... ... but I suppose we could see about trying out capnhack.com/hosting who still keeps Oosat1 going! ...
