Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

Used my first Q-bomb today in a combat situation. Note to self: start witch space countdown before you deploy the Q-bomb. That was way too close, even with injectors.

I made it though.

Re: Elite music...

There must be something about The Blue Danube and space travel... Anyone remember 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Re: Elite vs. Oolite. Some observations.

Fireflies? Child's play! At least you had your missiles. Back in MY day, instead of launching missiles, we threw marbles. One would need to hold his breath, lean out of the airlock into the 100 km/hour winds (yes, back in those days there was WIND in SPACE), and throw a marble towards the enemy ship...

Re: Elite vs. Oolite. Some observations.

I remember before we had lasers-- had to pick some unlucky soul to stick his arm out the airlock and shine a flashlight on the enemy ship until it exploded. And that's what we did for FUN!

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

I'm going to be posting in this thread way too often... I was sitting at the witch space beacon waiting for a freighter to arrive so I could escort it to the station. Yes, I was in a generous mood this morning. An Anaconda with a large assortment of about ten Mk I Cobra escorts pops out of witch spa...

Re: Elite vs. Oolite. Some observations.

I remember when engines hadn't been invented yet. We had to fire a missile out the aft of the ship to get some momentum and then lean out the aft window and blow. Lot of good men got scuppered by those missiles, lot of good men...

Re: So Navy Frigates are a bid hard then!

I decided to do a little narc run a while back. Got for about 4 credits a ton and sold for 100... very nice profit. The offender status didn't bother me, I usually just dodge cops until I'm clean again. I jumped over to Isinor, forgetting that I had installed Galactic Navy OXP. There were two Behemo...

Re: Struggling with a game play issue.

I have a habit of running the lasers red on a routine basis-- and that's at close range. I'm a purist who refuses to use anything but the keyboard...

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

I've had a new commander for a few days, and the milk runs have only been able to bring me an ECM and a fuel scoop. Otherwise, it's just a pitiful pulse laser on the forward mount. Probably wasting too much time in those hoopy casinos... At any rate, I ventured into an anarchy system to see if I cou...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

I started a new commander today. Just when I was readjusting to the lack of witch space fuel injectors and a docking computer, I saw a little scuffle. I was fairly close to the Lave station and it looked like the pirates were outnumbered, so I figured I would have a few shots and be on my way. I end...

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

Taking a passenger in after a long trip across the chart... Didn't bother to save at any stations because I had fuel scoops and didn't feel like trading. Encountered a very large group of pirates, so I launched a Q-bomb, did a U-turn, and hit the injectors... only to find I was out of witchspace fue...

Re: Favourite ship.

First off, a note about making ship maneuverability more "realistic"-- Oolite's physics engine is not even close to realistic! If we wanted to upgrade to, say, a realistic Newtonian engine with orbital mechanics, the number of things which influence how a ship maneuvers is incalculable. Gr...

Re: Father, I've done a bad thing!

I sold my Cobra III for a little Adder to pay the debt. I made a new commander when I realized I can't cut it as a bounty hunter, at least not in that thing.

Re: Father, I've done a bad thing!

I once took out a loan so I could buy a larger ship, figuring I could earn enough credits to pay the debt in time.

As it became apparent that I wouldn't be able to pay up, I thought my shiny new ship could handle those pesky gunships.

Nope. :D
