Welcome steen! In the core game Military Laser is the best without questions. About OXP lasers you can read through the following wiki pages and select what you like. Laser Cannons are stronger but slower so check the damage/seconds column for a comparsion. New Lasers contain additional rapid ones....

Same here, sound disappears after some time of gaming, usually after 30-40 minutes and whilst docking fiddling around with the menus or whilst in middle of batt.e
