I tried Courier New in my Sandbox copy here (which I use due to wiki p/w problem):

What do you think?

as a compromise, the date could be truncated to "Sep 10" ~ don't think we need to go past Month/Year. the version should/could be the OXP version instead, that'd make it easy to spot it if was higher than the version you had, and actually might negate the date column, freeing up space? as...

I'm happy for the version to be changed to have OXP version numbers (anyone volunteering to populate this?) or removed provided the Release Date column is kept. (Basically I want one or the other.) Unless I get my wiki password reset, I'm afraid I cannot volunteer to be ramble assassin ( ) as ...

Ok, now look what happens when a new OXP author comes along and writes a long but not overly verbose summary which looks ok at his resolution of 1980 x 1080. There's nothing wrong with it - it's almost plausible. Are the wiki police going to come get him - give him a cease and desist notice for writ...

I've made the table the way Cdr. McLane wants it so people can have a look at it. You can see just over half as many OXPs, but all columns even at the lowest resolution (I hope). With wrapping, there is no limit on text, so I foresee if this format is kept many of the current 2 liners becoming 3 lin...

So I still use IE5.1 when forced to use internet from that laptop.
Out of curiosity, how does the table look in IE5.1?

BTW, I scooped an escape capsule with your namesake inside last night. Eric Walch gave me 150 credits for my efforts to get him passed customs

Forget IE6. Wouldn't we like to :D However recent figures (August 2010 W3C) suggest that over 6% of browsers used are still IE6, more than Safari and Opera! When I tested the table I used IE6, partly because it's crap and would show-up any problems, but also because it is still quite popular. I gue...

I had a think about IE 6 and 7 and remembered all sorts of fun bugs I fell over last time I tried something like this with tables. (It generally works if you do it with DIVs but I don't know if that will fly in a Wiki. Have to look into it.) Getting a consistent appearance across browsers and OSs i...

All I'm saying is that the mistake already happened once with the ever expanding alphabetic table that got split and split again, so why not put in place measures to safeguard against this at the start? Why repeat the mistake and necessitate another new table in a year's time?

Once you remove the fixed width, font, font size and so forth, an OXP author writing a summary will have no idea whether his summary fits on one line for the majority of users or not. So if an OXP author writes a summary that happily fits for him on one line at HD 1980, the poor netbook user at 1024...

That said, more often than not the huge vertical space that OXPs sometimes take in the current table can be attributed to the one-ship-per-line concept. There are also quite a few cases where there is information in the synopsis that clearly doesn't belong there. I don't think we have to be dogmati...

Look at the current alphabetic tables and how awful they look with many OXPs having rambling descriptions. Open http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP%27s_%27A%27_to_%27F%27 and set your browser windows to 1024 width to get an idea of what a netbook user has to put up with. Sometimes you can only see ...

[EDITED] If you look at Famous Planets, I've done an example where adding the optional parameter |big=y gives an elephant symbol which if you hover over it says 5MB+. This can be easily added to the largest OXPs if people feel this is a reasonable way to indicate large download size. For longer desc...

If the list is to contain only OXPs that work (and ideally I think it should), we need a mechanism to determine if an OXP has been checked against a new Oolite release as noone is going to volunteer to download and test every OXP with each release. I think that as new versions of Oolite come out, we...

If downloads are on box.net as many are, it tells you the size before you download. The exact size can also be put on the OXP author's wiki or webpage or even in the description column itself. Users are presumably only interested in whether an OXP is above a certain size. I don't fancy digging out t...
