Re: Griff Boa Model

I've made liveries for the Boa, so I had a very close look at it, and especially the textures, and I didn't notice something like this. But the texture has a strange bug: One part of the left side of the ship is mirrored - coincidentally the same part where the logo is in your picture. Strangely thi...

Re: Elite

I'm still in sector 4. There isn't very much incentive to go to a new sector, and there will be even less if the core missions are completed. The only really new aspect of each sector is the distribution of stars, resulting in different long-distance contract routes.

Re: Elite

I never was Elite with the C-64 Elite, although I've played it for a long time. At some point, it was just shooting, shooting and shooting, and I didn't even know at the time how much kills I would need to become Elite. In Oolite there is so much more you can do and look at , even if you don't insta...

Re: Penalty for ramming ships near stations

There are two different issues: 1) Is ramming calculated correctly? It isn't, at least if you hit something very heavy very slowly, as cim pointed out. So recalibrating the calculations behind this certainly wouldn't be wrong. 2) Should ramming be considered as an attack? Flying a heavy ship with st...

Re: My joystick setup - what do others do?

I now use a higher chair and a little pillow for my arm. The joystick is placed to the right side of the keyboard, very near the right lower corner of my screen. It feels much better now, but I haven't tested this arrangement with Oolite yet.

Re: visibility range versus scanner range

You can see the ISS and even much smaller satellites from the ground easily if you look at the right moment. That's a distance of more than 400 km, that's not much less than the radar range of an E-3 Sentry, which definitely has a bigger radar antenna than most Oolite ships. So Oolite is realistic i...

Re: Screenshots

Fritz mentioned this sort of thing in the Spicy Hermits thread - but I ain't running Spicy Hermits. It was a coincidence. The system where I first tested the Spicy Hermits is a very unsafe system, probably the unsafest I've ever been to. I think, these situations can occur when you avoid (and not k...

Re: EU referendum

Only bad news are good news, so people (Germans like British) tend to forget or ignore all the advantages that came with the EU -a common economy zone, freedom of movement, financial support for structurally weaker regions, and probably many other things.

Re: My joystick setup - what do others do?

The most ergonomic solution would be to make a hole, so that only the upper part of the stick is above desktop level. It's a cheap desk but I'm not sure that I really want to do this... Another solution would be a sidestick arrangement like in an Airbus, with the stick only a little higher than the ...

Re: My joystick setup - what do others do?

Yes, I know, but fine tuning the settings won't change the physical disadvantage. One problem is the way I'm sitting when playing: I don't have a comfortable "cockpit" like CWolf showed at the beginning of this thread, but I'm using my desktop computer, so keyboard and joystick are sitting...

Re: My joystick setup - what do others do?

First impressions. While the joystick is good for FlightGear - I managed a decent landing on the first try - it doesn't work with Oolite at all (for me, that is). I can aim and dock better than expected, but it's a completely different feeling, compared to Elite played with a digital joystick and co...

Re: My joystick setup - what do others do?

After a very long decision phase, I've decided that I can't decide. To end this, I've just bought the T.Flight Hotas Stick X, and with some luck it could arrive before the weekend.

I don't know if I'll use the thrust lever, but it can be detached. I'll report how I'm getting along with it!

Re: FlightGear: amazing open source flight simulator

I'll definitely buy a joystick with rudder control, because having no rudder is the main reason why I mess up landings! And propeller planes need rudder for taking off too, especially taildraggers like the DC-3. Mouse control is definitely better than keyboard, but it is terrible! I learne...

Re: FlightGear: amazing open source flight simulator

Meanwhile I tried out the Super Constellation, the most beautiful airliner ever built, and until I really have learned to fly it, I'll better stick to it. It's really fun, but I'll definitely have to buy a joystick now... I'll probably sign up to the forum too, but I've too little time at the moment.

Re: DST (BST)

If the map in Wikipedia is correct, the most strange time zone is in the south-east corner of West Australia. It looks like there is not much more than one village in this area...

I now declare my house to be GMT+0:45! :D
