Re: Keeping orientation
I have the impression that scanning empty space with eyes strongly depends on the graphics quality, settings, card and so on. The difficulty of a game should not depend on the hardware or your purse. (One of the reasons why I hate commercial browser games.) In theory you need 3 fixed points in space...

Re: Adder start: No kidding it's hard!
For one thing, it gives significant meaning to the escape capsule. Escape capsules are useless. Death happens only if I haven't seen it coming - Collisions, missiles and sometimes unidentified events. "Player taking xxxxxx energy damage from thargoid outpost, BOOM press space". Some kind ...

Re: Adder start: No kidding it's hard!
I am actually flying a commander (now deadly, iron ass, 1kk cr etc) who started as broke adder who died a single time in total only. It was from an apparent bug, instantly after the jump there was BOOM press space, as if materialized inside the witchpoint buoy. I think it only works with an appropri...

Re: Adder start: No kidding it's hard!
Why wait for a free wormwhole ? As long as there are no injectors, no fuel left is just as good as a full tank. Just jump immediately. If something bad happens (thargoids  ), restart. This is "rerolling" then, not cheating. EDIT Ah forgot, broke Adder starts without fuel. IIRC I made...

Re: Keeping orientation
I know. Depends on the advanced compass, so useless in interstellar space. And is primable so should be avoided. And I don't know how it would help to find back the current cyclic course around the sun when following a search pattern.

Keeping orientation
Is there something like a gyroscope in oolite ? In real space travel, they are used to keep orientation of satellites and such, or to align the hubble telescope to a given star etc. In oolite, it could be used e.g. to find one's way back to the "invisible witchpoint" in interstellar space ...

Re: Adder start: No kidding it's hard!
I don't think I've ever shot a missile down with my aft laser. Seriously ? You don't happen to mean your front laser ? There are things shooting hardheads only, such as the orca class destroyer from aquatics OXP. Useful for acquiring missile shooting practice. In an Adder, basically avoid all comba...

Re: The pain of flying an Andromeda...or any other big ship!
I have flown some of the smallest ships available which are worth flying, e.g. Cobra Mk II-X (not the "rebalanced" version) from the very bottom of the ship list ordered by size . It's amazing to see NPCs actually miss regularly instead of continuously hitting as soon as they have hit once...

Re: Favorite Combat Tactics
Adders or generally small ships are especially dangerous, as you overestimate their distance when flying towards them.
Re: Vulkan
I'd expect their next product to be called Romulus then.
The correct spelling is "Kronos" though.

Re: Fixing the agro of the AI
As I said, there is something in the code to allow friendly fire: You can even friendly-fire police ships a little bit without penalty in some situations. (You have to have a good enough record, clearly have been aiming at a legitimate target, and only give them a glancing blow) Never noticed it. R...

Re: [REL] Firefly (Serenity)
Thinking about it, I once had about 20 kills or so and several 100k credits with a commander. If you concentrate on trade and cargo contracts with a cobra 3 or something else with at least 35TC cargo space it should work. (So that you can improve cargo contract reputation until you are offered the p...

Re: [REL] Firefly (Serenity)
getting rich without any violence Challenge. Not even pure self defence against assassins etc ? Making money from parcels requires sufficient elite skill too (about competent at least), how could one possibly reach that ? Some starting ships don't let you make money from trade or cargo contracts. L...

Re: System Populator Memory
fights tend to leave alloy plates and cargo canisters lying around, many of which the winners won't be interested in picking up (police don't, traders don't, assassins don't, and most hunters don't have much or any hold space) - so they slowly drift away off-lane into deep enough space that no NPC ...

Certainly their main advantage. Aside from not requiring cargo space, good chance of granting a bonus, and not requiring a deposit.ffutures wrote:Imaginos wrote:the good thing about parcels is that currently they can't be destroyed.
