Yes, it is clear that you don't see my point. Allow me to clarify my position. I am not suggesting that anyone has stated that anti-viral software is the ultimate in internet security, however I am making the point that if no-one specifically says that it is NOT, any newbie internet user could walk ...

No one is suggesting recklessness. I think its pretty clear that I, and most other people here are taking a pragmatic view that you should be sensible in behaviour, and that anti-virus software for most people is a good idea. Maybe not, but on the flip side no-one seems to be commenting on how feat...

A properly driven car does not crash -- why bother with seatbelts? Don't drive like a maniac because your seatbelt will protect you ;-) Yes, definitely use a firewall. It's a good idea to have adblockers plugins etc as well. But anything other than free antiviral software is a waste of money. Most ...

True enough, but by the same token, don't rely on it solely.

Yeh, but virus scanners are mostly for the people who are likely to get viruses without even realising it. The best security you can get is common sense.

No equipment freeze-up

If you have no equipment on your ship i.e. lasers and ship upgrades, you get a freeze-up when going to the status screen. This happens automatically when docking and when pressing F5.

I am a natural explorer. I like to try out everything a game has to offer, finding things that are new and unique, trying out every style of play, learning how the game works and refining and perfecting strategies. However, when I feel I have exhausted all of the possibilities of a game I tend to ge...

Injectors are nice, but if elite was playable without them, then I guess oolite must be. I would agree but it seems impossible to destroy incoming missiles with lasers in oolite, especially using a keyboard. I got quite good at it in the original, and was able to get by without ECMs, but I haven't ...

I tend to think hunting is feasible when once I get a beam laser, injectors and fuel scoops, but staying clear of dangerous worlds, and OXPs that make life hard for the average jameson, is still advisable.

Still getting this bug BTW. It happened with some food picked up with a fuel scoop from a pirate.

It's early days in my Cobra Mk III and I haven't got afterburners or docking computers yet. I am approaching Leesti station and get caught in traffic some way out. I figure I'm not going to get a chance to use hyperspeed again so I aim for the nav beacon and start reading to pass the time. I get so ...

Yeh, it wouldn't be a simple matter of someone knocking up an OXP to do it. They could be read from shipdata.plist, but that would probably require a short description to be added as one of the shipdata fields. Plus there would need to be a new page designed, and allocation of the new function key t...
