I have found that the police tend to take their time responding to you. Their response is kinda spotty. I think they are better in more stable governments, but that may also be me imposing preconceptions on to the game.

Rear lasers can work well. Get a beam laser for the rear, it shoots for longer and it still seems to surprise the heck out of ships taking potshots at you from behind.

Missles will distract some of them for a bit if not take them out. People who don't like energy bombs seem to be ok with Q mines, if you have injectors you may want to try one of them.

Following some updates to models used in Asteroid Storm I've uploaded a version 1.2 to resolve any potential clashes. I can't replicate the crashes to desktop people are having - not sure if it's still shaders or if it's something else. I'll be ready to apply a fix once we know what the problem is!...
