Re: Crew discussion 2012/2022
However, that it would boil down to an investment in order to reduce upkeep costs is a rather disappointing game mechanic. Only in the sense that it is somewhat redundant with the purchase of the big ship itself: it's all about return on investment (besides the fun of driving a big ship, that is). ...

Re: Crew discussion 2012
According to Nautic Jobs , the average crew for a container ship is around 20. So a crew is something you have to have for big ships; not in order to increase its efficiency, but to function correctly. A single pilot cannot drive the ship 24/7 so you need at least a couple of copilots in addition t...

Re: Nerdy Analysis For Fun (NAFF)
5) Every ship is multi-role, and most of them are terrible at it. Freighters like the Python and Boa are basically just much bigger versions of the Mamba or Sidewinder - they fly about the same, they're just slightly tougher (and not even that much tougher). Compare with something like Tie Fighter ...

Re: Best expansion packs - just my two cents
A bit tangential, but there's a streamer named "opensource_gaming" on Twitch ( https://www.twitch.tv/opensource_gaming ) who plays and shows, well, open source games. He does not have a large number of viewers usually, but it is one way to promote Oolite. But I think (didn't launched a van...

Re: [release]Sun Kiota stations
Hello, I had to fetch again this OXP because it is not on my disk anymore (or somewhere non obvious). I only rarely play Oolite these days, and last time I was hacking it, I removed Kyota stations in favor of the rock hermits the system populator may spawn near the sun if you ask it (more-or-less) p...

Re: Star Fuel OXZ
I have added a configuration parameter for the minimum planetary radius to get enhanced fuel: https://gitlab.com/Astrobe/star-fuel If you have no idea what the frack Git is, just click the button on the left of the blue "clone" button and download the source as zip. I think making Star fue...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?
I think Cim's old "Risk based Economy" (basically the unsafer the system the better the prices) was a good idea except for the early game, when you cannot afford to take any risk. IMHO what is needed is: - A viable, medium difficult Adder start, so that you have a longer progression path (...

if (spawnedShips[i].isShip && !spawnedShips[i].isDerelict && !spawnedShips[i].isBoulder && !spawnedShips[i].is1t-cargopod) unfortunately all three of these caused the Cargo Pods to vanish as soon as they showed up; no key press, no nothing, just poof and they were gone a spl...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?
I have been away from Oolite (and tbh just passing by) for a couple of years because I am into Minetest ("MT") now. Minetest and Oolite share a few traits. One of them is the ability to build your own game by piling up mods. Actually, that's the theory. I am making my own game in MT and I ...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?
I don't think it solves the problem - or rather, the real problem behind this one, which is that the game gets easier as you progress. It should be the opposite. Even if you tweak the systems' population, you can still be caught by pirates and dodging them all the way to the station is a painful exp...

Re: [Release] Space Crowds
Hello, Sorry, I've been away from Oolite for a long time and rarely play it now (I'm into Minetest these days). I have some unreleased code that goes like this: this.$removeFarShips=function() { var spawnedShips=this.$spawnedShips; var count=0; for(var i=0; i<spawnedShips.length; i++) { // ship migh...
