Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 ship with broken versions of GNUstep (1.19.3) as detailed elsewhere. The issue you described is a classical symptom. Either compile GNUstep yourself (Versions up to 1.19.2 are ok and from 1.20.1 onwards) or you can download precompiled GNUstep 1.20.1 (inc. dev libraries) from ...

They had one of the Buran shuttles at an exhibition in Sydney quite a few years back and I saw it 'in the flesh'. Impressive.

Oolite 1.74.2 is (finally) also available via the repository for Debian and Ubuntu users. PLEASE NOTE: for Ubuntu lucid (and soon maverick), a backported version of the GNUstep libraries is provided. This may cause conflicts with other software installed on your system. For people who already have t...

Rather late reply but better than never. Debian lenny only ships with libgnustep-base1.16. Hence packages built specifically for lenny will have to link against that version of libgnustep-base. And that is mostly the point of the Oolite .deb repository - to provide distro-specific builds which integ...

Apologies for lack of deb packages for 1.74.2 - I've had a very bad case of RealLife and around the same time I lost access to the automated deb build server. I am now starting to resurrect my OOLife and have also managed to get a deb build server together again. 1.74.2 debs are now available for so...

If you do get a crash-to-desktop from fullscreen, it's possible that X ends up in an inconsistent state, hence no mouse. Not much we can do about that I don't think.

What we can do though is track down why it's crashing in the first place. Can you please post your Latest.log?

Likewise, I slowed my player Cobbie3 down. Perhaps NPCs should have a small percentage range - illegally tuned engines (with a chance of failure) or detuned (because of lack of maintenance) which slightly affects top-speed. But IMHO all ships of the same model should be the same speed - regardless o...

Sounds to me that maybe Thargons should have a lower bounty then.. with perhaps the Thargoid having a higher one to compensate (perhaps it can even go up every time it launches a Thargon?).

Thanks for the confirmation, B.

I've been playing with 1.20.1 for a few weeks now myself and haven't found any unexplained bugs yet. Unfortunately that doesn't help anybody who upgraded to Lucid or is running any other distro which is stuck at gnustep1.19.x.

Well played the forward half of England. The back half was obviously out to lunch - which was great for Germany!! I know that key: I added that key to the 1.74 code to make it easier for creating a station with a custom market.
Ah, oops.. sorry
I guess I should pay more attention as to who wrote something as well as the what..

Instead of forcing the station primary-role in order to get the market you want you can also specifiy a 'market' key in the ships' plist (since 1.74). This will then force that market irrespective of primary role.

See: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Shipdata.plist#market

I don't think it would make much sense to try to dogfight while towing, especially if your ship is severely slowed down while doing so. I think it'd make more sense to drop the ship and fight, then pick it up again afterwards (assuming it didn't get blown up or stolen). I also think it'd look very o...

Not sure I'd necessarily agree with having to give up a laser. (Only the rear one would make sense in either case).
However, while towing you can't fire the rear laser, or at least, not without hitting the ship you're towing!!
