Re: Is it time to 'fix' the Anaconda?

Like I said it depends on how you define 1TC. And of course how you define ship sizes too. My old BBC elite manual quoted dimensions in feet (not metres) and cargo in Tonnes. Now if it had quoted Tons that could mean several different things but Tonne is a very specific measurement and is defined b...

Re: New Jamesons Primer: part 1 KIT

Am I understanding correctly that what you're saying means it will still count the time it would have taken to manually dock, so any time-sensitive missions can be failed by "teleporting" to the dock? Right. The "insta-dock" mode takes 20 minutes (I haven't timed how long the au...

Re: New Jamesons Primer: part 1 KIT

I buy docking computers before upgrading my lasers when I'm playing "iron man" style. My reasoning is that I can (and should) run away from pirates at that stage of the game, but I can't avoid docking. You get bored of manual docking, boredom leads to carelessness, and carelessness leads t...

Re: New to Oolite - Help Me w/ Equipment

The expanded cargo bay is definitely a good first purchase, just as soon as you can afford enough cargo to make use of it. If you're eager to stand and fight when you encounter pirates, I'd get these next: ECM System, Witchdrive Fuel Injectors (for outrunning ECM-hardened missiles), and Beam Laser. ...

Re: Beyond the Constrictor mission.

Seem to remember in Elite getting into Thargoid Space for some fights. Careful there, it's bad luck to mention the... bugs during flight. The crew can get a bit nervous about the things that lurk out there in witchspace. Unwise to attract the attention of anything nasty, if you see what I mean. Now...

Re: Military shields

I definitely vote for "Yes". If a pirate decides to launch a missile at me from 50 metres away, I prefer being able to think "That's inconvenient, my shields are now in the red" rather than "Oh well, I didn't really like my ship anyway. Or breathing air." (And once you'...

Re: Going hardcore Oolie 1.77 - Tales from a maniac

The Isinor-Qutiri run gets even sweeter once you find out there's a rock hermit lurking in a dinky little asteroid field way outside the spacelanes. If you can get the hang of finding them most of the time, it's well worth doing a triangular trade of liquor to the hermit, metals and ores to Qutiri, ...

Re: Going hardcore Oolie 1.77 - Tales from a maniac

Well, here's my latest tip for Ironman play: when you're using injectors in combat, note that pirates behind you don't always notice when you slow down again. I got all the way to 3379 kills only to have an Asp unexpectedly try to cram itself up my exhausts. :x

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

This was almost one for the Darwin Awards thread: So here's a handy tip I discovered today. If you get a few well-aimed shots off at a pirate who is fleeing with injectors, you might get them to eject at exactly the moment they disappear off the edge of your scanner. If this happens and you chase af...

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

Does anyone else often find themselves having the thought "I thought I ECM'd that?? " Just before seeing a missile barrelling towards you shortly before pressing space? That sounds all too familiar! I've developed a habit of pressing "T" after every pirate I destr...

Re: THE DEATH OF OOLITE > ELITE DANGEROUS

I backed Elite: Dangerous, and I'm eagerly looking forward to it. But I don't think it'll compete directly with Oolite. Oolite, despite all its new features and extra eye-candy, still feels to me like playing the original Elite. I'm expecting E:D to be more like a total reboot of the Elite universe ...

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

I'm playing Ironman style at the moment (standard v1.77 with no OXPs, restarting from scratch if I die), so these are just the ones I remember out of a long list of stupid deaths. Combat rating achieved is in [square brackets], where I remember it. #1: "Asteroid mining is so slow and boring. Wa...

Re: Trumbles anyone?

Even knowing the trick wasn't enough for me today. (Spoilers below... although not many more than in previous posts :-) ) So, I decide to get rid of my infestation with a quick flame-grilling and head for the nearest star with my newly-installed heat shielding at the ready. The temperature starts cl...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

There I was, sitting in the station bar at Zaonce with less than 200 credits to my name and a Cobby Mark III with no gear besides a front-mounted laser pointer, when this wild-eyed red furry feline sidles up to me and hisses, "Psst. Megaweed." Yeah, I know, shouldn't even have made eye con...

Re: [POLL] Career Elite Ranking

Pretty sure there wasn't a version of Amstrad CPC Elite with the Constrictor Hunt mission, so I don't think you missed it. I only ever heard of it having the nova, the Thargoid space station, and the cloaked ship, and those were the ones I got while playing through it (when you have an ECM Jammer an...
