This looks very cool. Hope to see it soon in-game.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

"The Star" proves that Wells's grasp of orbital mechanics was lamentable. <grins> He could write a damn good tale though! Yes, I enjoyed a number of his shorts when I was a schoolboy and we studied a collection of them in English class. It's just that in story after story he displayed a r...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Close enough to give it. The celestial body in "The Star" is actually the product of a collision between Neptune and a foreign body that causes the resulting object to fall into the Sun, grazing Earth as it passes, while in "A World out of Time" the planet Uranus is deliberately ...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

From my bookcase... The Martian astronomers – for there are astronomers on Mars, although they are very different beings from men – were naturally profoundly interested by these things. I'll not answer Malacandra's question though, as my question-fu has gone walkabout. Well, half the answer will be...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Okay, your Allowed Burglar is called Drake Maijstral and the reason such a thing is allowed is that the Emperor was a thief and so burglary had to be declared legal.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

A rocket - they're looking for stuff left over from the old Terran Empire(?) that colonised both systems which will give them a technological boost. If they can build a ship, they get better status in the current terran empire. At least that's how I remember it, it's been a long time since I read i...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Okay, a science fiction novel here: a planet with steam-age technology sends an expedition to a planet with mediaeval-age technology in search of a technological advancement. What is it that they are looking to build?

Re: Quote of the week!

Yes, the McAuslan stories are very funny … if you've not read it yet, you might also like GMF's memoir of his wartime experiences as a private in Burma, called Quartered Safe Out Here . It's not funny (and for funny wartime memoir, you can't beat Spike Milligan's Hitler: My Part in His Downfall and...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Okay, a hasty one as it's my son's birthday weekend... what's the connection between a leading roboticist from a number of well-known stories, and Bill Watterson?
