I'd like to try local hero. However, when I expand the zip file, I get a folder full of stuff, rather than an oxp file and a readme. Should I just drop the entire folder into the AddOns folder?

Just on a general note, and not wanting to be immediately negative, but I'd like to request an absolute minimum of escort missions. Possibly even zero escort missions. Escort missions suck, by and large. Fair point, although some of the issues raised in that article aren't really a problem in Oolit...

Idea 2: Hunt down Captain "Roadrunner" Spode. The criminal mastermind Captain Spode has stolen the crown jewels of a rich, and justifiably irritated, head of state in [insert system name here... importantly this is where the player is currently docked]. Following his usual modus operandi h...

I'm still in Galaxy 1 so I haven't started many of the missions yet. I've destroyed the Doomsday Asteroid, and I'm looking forward to some more challenges. Do people fancy a quick brainstorming session for possible mission themes? I'll start, let me know if they've already been done. I can't program...

Wow! Just wow! This is both awesome and heartwarming that these kind of ideas can be developed so quickly. Hats off to all y'all. A couple of things that have been mentioned in the thread, but I couldn't see if they've been resolved: Is it possible to retain information about a ships legal status so...

What does the fighter HUD have that helps with long range aiming?

Any other recommendations for HUDs out there?

Although you can certainly hit a python more easily than a Cobra Mk I at long range I find it a bit pointless to do so since they can take an entire cold->overheated blast of military laser right on the nose and still be alive. No. No Python will survive a full military salvo, provided it actually ...

Hang on a second, since when was "divide and conquer" religated from "decent tactics". OK not sporting I'll give you, but I would argue that 8 against 1 is fairly unsporting in the first place. Nothing wrong with divide and conquer. Like I said, I just wouldn't find it that sati...

I'm with Ahruman, I'd definitely try controlling the ship with a mouse before splashing out on a joystick. At present, I'm finding combat almost insultingly easy. To be fair I do have a fairly tricked out Cobra with fore and aft military lasers, extra energyunits, shiled boosters etc. I find that I ...

Thanks again LB and CM. I have to say that despite my whingeing I actually really like the interface as it is. The atmosphere and the "texture" created by the randomised messages and missions does add some wonderful feel to the game. I think it's entirely in keeping with the slightly anarc...

Ooookay, thanks CM and LB for the explanations. It does make sense that part of the high return rate for hits is all the travelling. I may well download the map, any chance of a direct linky CM? Thanks for explaining the randomisation LB, so I will get back to exactly the same missions if I run thro...

Random Hits issues/questions

I've just installed Random Hits, what a great expansion to the game! [/hat] A couple of minor questions: Problem 1: Is it possible to flip between the bulletin board and a galactic map? I'd like to be able to see whether I'm required to travel most of the way across the galaxy to 'retire' someone. A...

Cheers frame, that could be it. I couldn't find any clear instructions how to update from 1.65 so I did spend a few minutes randomly clicking, dragging and double-clicking to try to get the new version. I didn't know that 1.71.2 had actually installed until I opened Oolite and got a message saying s...

Firing racers and mining in 1.71.2

A very weird bug that showed up after I'd upgraded to v.1.71.2. I installed lane_legal for a bit of variety in the space lanes. On my next jaunt out I attacked a Tiger, who promptly launched 4 Krait racers at me. They didn't do anything, just hung there in space. I was even more confused when the ne...
