I'm using the HOTAS X too, and in addition to what Thermonuklear said, I found the ability to separate the throttle section from the joystick section really useful. I would go for the beam laser, especially if there's lots of pirate-blasting to be done!

I thought I had some sort of Stargate oxp installed when I saw a Cobra Courier the first time! It's very similar to the Death Glider or the Tau'ri F302. Elite was published about a year before I was born, but I had the incredible luck of stumbling upon it when my brother gave me some of his old ST games in the early '90s.

If you snip out the side thrusters, it looks a lot like core ships :D Maybe the triangles are slowly corrupting you after all, Paradox! ;D Once again a very good-looking ship. I haven't played Oolite since I made that little docking video some time ago, gardening and Minecraft are taking all my spar...

What kind of joystick do you have?
I had a faulty stick once with no way to set the deadzones and used XPadder as a workaround.
