Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Getting ready for an Arena release version... Missiles Missiles now work over the network - implementation passes control to the application instance of the player's ship being fired at, this means that you can launch a missile at an enemy ship and then dock in a station, enter a wormhole, or get bl...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Generation Ships: Before the development of the WS Thru-Space drive, in all its various forms, interstellar travel occurred in large, self-sustaining environment ships - Generation Ships - most of which have now been logged and their progress monitored. There are more than seventy thousand of these...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Seems as though there should be some interaction, to me. A mission based on a Generation Ship would be highly interesting... I envision that missions in EMP would be set up something along these lines: Nova Mission To all trade ships : Star Quothan C in the Dicemari system is expected to go Nova at...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
But it would be battered by millions and millions of micro-meteorites, and a dozen types of radiation, and what-have-you. The result could look pretty similar. We're talking about centuries in space, without outside maintenance. Maybe, but they are spending most of their time in interstellar space,...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
You could ask Draco Caeles for permission to use his Generation Ship as a Generation Ship. Why re-invent the wheel? I had already imported his Generation ship into sketchup, it is a nice model but I didn't particularly like the texturing (though I couldn't do any better). I don't think a met...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Either that or retain the Galactica's scale and just clarify in the documentation that you can't dock with the Galactica if you have anything bigger than an Adder. Seems to fit more with the fact that the Galactica's launch bays were designed for fighters, not big ass trade ships. Documentation! I ...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
I've created the Battlestar Galactica as a generation ship, not textured (if anyone wants the sketchup model to texture and add more greebling, I'd be happy to send it) http://i.imgur.com/mJKXK.png Again there is an image capture problem with transparency, I think I need to take a photo with my came...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
May have something to do with their different roll capacities? I haven't implemented varying roll capacities for the various ships yet, but thanks for the suggestion and I will add that on the to-do list. I had implemented roll/pitch dampening, but it was located in my keyboard control code, so wha...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Following a Ferdelance into the docking bay - for some reason it was not as steady as the Cobra, it wobbled more, during the docking process. http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o601/Bunny_Buster/emp20121005203352.png I'm not too concerned, as I don't think that AI ships in a multiplayer version wil...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Wow! Thanks! That was enough information to allow me to implement auto-dock ship rotation into the letterbox in just four lines of code! This really is the friendliest board this side of Riedquat. :D Actually, it was simpler than described, I just needed a vector offset from the station rotation and...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
For a multiplayer game, it is impossible to avoid deviating from the original Elite and from Oolite since there are so many things in the game which only work in single-player (the most blatant examples of that are of course the energy bomb, but also the random chance to have a rock hermit when ent...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
You're not the only one. I'm working on something myself (in Erlang), but I've not advanced as far as you have by any means. Great, keep us posted on progress - any deviations from Elite other than multiplayer? Is it client server or peer to peer? I've chosen client server so that the server can tr...

Re: EMP – multiplayer game
Hi Everyone, thanks for the feedback! It is encouraging that this is something people are wanting to see. And thanks Griff for permission to use your models. Yes, this is Windows Only (at the moment). I don't see why it couldn't be ported to other environments once it was up and running. Following i...

EMP – multiplayer game
OK, am I the only one attempting this? No, it is not Oolite I've been developing this as a hobby since 1992, so development is proceeding but very slowly, with just an hour or two spent per week. Then two years ago I discovered Oolite, and development stopped until I got up to Deadly status. With th...
