I'll do some more work on the generated textures soon so I can have a play with having some parameters that can tie up with the description. For example the sea level is just a number between 0 and 255. So we can make wet worlds have a higher value than dry ones. While I'm here - is anyone any good ...

pirate coves adds 'fake' rock hermits. They're not really rock hermits, they just pretend to be so they can kill you when you get close. On the plus side they're much more common ( 1 in 3 systems have them I'd guess) and a decent ship can easily 'run the blockade' and dock to get the trading benefits.

Good news - looking forward to playing the new version :) One little feature request - could all the naval station be marked on the long range scanner in some way? I find I rarely do naval missions because i don't know where to go to get them and I haven't quite got round to printing out an annotate...

Frontier was still a good game. It's just that it could have been so much better and it's dated very badly as it's software rendered 3d... My main complaint ws the UI - you often had to take ages to find the planet you wanted to fly to. A simple list of planets to click on that would drive the map w...

that's sort of what i thought. The height scaling things I suggested will help then by making it more uniform in colour at the poles. I may try adding some progressive smoothing at higher latitudes as well. That way when it gets scrunched up the level of detail will look fairly uniform throughout. I...

Welcome :) Oolite is basically Elite with lots of scripting goodies and prettiness. Frontier and First Encounters are considered separate and in the future. You'll find that asking for a feature that was in FFE will probably be met with a 'this is Oolite, not a FFE clone' type response. edit: I'm 90...

I've not looked at the oolite code at all (although I've got a link to the SVN repository somewhere). It's actually something I've been meaning to play with for just over 10 years so this was just the impetous to get me started :) I'm thinking that once I have a good tool for finding suitable parame...

Those are the first textures that 'worked' then i spent a couple of minutes tweaking a few parameters. So yes, they are a way of being 'ready' for use. For a start it's set at 256x256 so is too low res. I hadn't thought about aspect ratio so I guess 1024x512 would be better? I hadn't even though abo...
