It has to be a hollowed out asteroid - preferably with a bored sentient AI.

Could it be a reuse of the docking computer key - becoming the "autopilot" key instead. The key would make you fall into formation when you were on an escort mission - and only then. Any other functionality would be OTT - unless you use the missile targetting to decide which ship to follow...

If you want to go down that route the question has to be what is the cost? Any increase in firepower / remote kill ability needs to be balanced by a cost - either increased energy drain or vulnerability. How about you can only use the increased accuracy by disabling your shields. Or maybe the energy...

Lasers

Is there any reason why laser and weapons could not be moved to be handled by plists? From a cursory examination of the code there are 3 aspects: Cross Hairs, Laser Blast Graphics, Game Variable updates. The first 2 could be standard roles - they could even possibly be parameterised to allow customi...

Thanks to Winston who sorted me out re: the wiki.

There is now a OXP_tutorial page on the wiki which mirrors my stumbling process into the art of the OXP. In a bout of more egotism, I thought I'd write it up some more.

That would have been a sensible place to look - I have tended to by pass the front page and head into the Oolite pages.

Day 1 in the big OXP camp; and the lesson of the day is if you increase a ship's max speed to stupid levels, the marker buoy outside the station appears very hard and very fast. I have been making notes as I go and I am inclined to write them up as a practical tutorial - a bit more formally than her...

My steep learning curve - a racing mission

As a developer of more experience than I care to recall, I have ambitiously decided to write a mission OXP, foolishly decided to make it big, and arrogantly decidedly to start a topic about to document my progress, and beg for help periodically. The basic outline for the mission is as follows: The r...
