Re: It's official - open source is virus-laden!

Virii is the plural of virus James. From memory it also covers the components of which a virus is made.

Re: Niel Armstrong’s last step taken

NASA seems to have been dragging it's feet for decades with regard to the production of spacecraft. It's also curious that there have been few, if any, airframes designed since the late fifties. Regrettably the planet we live on seems to be in some way mis-engineered and we lurch from ecological dis...

Re: Debian Wheezy (Testing)

I found that Oolite (1.76) ran significantly better under Debian and Fedora than Ubuntu on three machines so far. As the machines are of different architecture and built over a decade apart I figure it must be Ubuntu that performs poorly, but then I've seen a number of people here using Ubuntu with ...

X-Files nonsense

I thought his anniversary speech odd - 'breakthroughs available to those who can remove one of truth's protective layers'. I wonder what he knew that we do not. A great man and a true patriot of his country.

Re: Oolite for Android please

BUT... Giles (Aegidian) wants to convert Oolite to work on the Raspberry Pi I'm not normally a religious person but if the Giles does do that then I will happily join the Black Monks, wear my pants on my head and sit in a bowl of cold porridge during compline. You do realise we'll insist on photos?...

Re: Antikythera Mechanism

It was absolutely fascinating. Some guys saying that it was beyond the engineering abilities of the time and one guy making a similar mechanism using hand-tools. Hats off to Archimedes.

Re: Colossus the world's first electronic computer

I remember that many Polish laid down their lives to deliver a machine to the Allies. Well, gave up their lives full stop. There are entire cemeteries dedicated to Polish war dead. I used to pass one on the way to a client site. Whenever there was a one way ticket mission the Polish would be in the ...

Re: Colossus the world's first electronic computer

Er… are you sure you’re not confusing it with this completely different Colossus? :-) I don't think so Ahruman, here is one account although it differs from the account that I originally read in some details. I suspect that their estimate of 5.8 ghz is in error... from memory approx 5.2 ghz is the ...
