Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
• kamikaze Thargoids: the three times I got dumped in with Thargoids in a failed witchspace jump I had enough fuel to inject away (and even clobber one or two with my rear laser). • kamikaze pirates: isn't the Missiles Modification .oxp supposed to help with this? • ECM hardened missiles: again, I'...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
Was it an ECM-hardened missile by any chance? I think they are a bit too strong. Seem to take all 4 energy units + what's left of the shield at close range. Kinetic energy is taken into account when missile damage is calculated. A missile hitting you head-on will cause much more damage than a missi...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
Aye, frustrating - but great fun. Made a good tale out of it too. Commander Cody has always flown a Cobra MkIII - there's nothing better! And yeah, she would've been iron-assed by then - kitted out with all the core equipment. So, my thoughts about MkIII are correct. Looks like there's no shame in ...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
Playing Ironman is harsh - even heart-breaking! I played Elite: Dangerous as Ironman from scratch. Needless to say, I didn't get very far. In Oolite, I once tried to circumnavigate the fifth octant in Ironman mode. I got killed two jumps away from making it. Yeah, it's harsh. Sometimes it seems lik...

Re: default planet texture resolution
Is it possible to have these default textures rendered at a higher resolution on the fly? I don't think there is. I've tried playing with planet colors in planetinfo.plist to make such things less visible. Some planets look a bit better than others, but still not good enough. Eventually, I've switc...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
If I understood it correctly, when you die you are going back to a new Jameson in Lave with 100Cr, right? Yeah, that's how crazy I am. I heard people talking about killing 300 without being killed once. I can only get up to 40ish. Or does "not being killed" mean ejecting in the escape pod?

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
A chance, yes! Back when docking protocols were disabled by default, I was running as an outlaw and rapid, queue-jumping, manual docking was the only way to go. I don't recall ever getting wiped-out by a launching ship. Unless you're unlucky enough to get one actually in the slot, you should be abl...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
Yeah, I know. I just don't see much reason why the normal docking should take so long with all those slow maneuvering back and forth.LittleBear wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 12:58 amIf you press Shift C you can dock instantly as long as you are not under attack.

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
... it's too much waiting, at least until fuel ejectors and docking computers are bought. You've not tried ILS? Ultra-fast docking on the tail of another ( read all the accompanying notes ) ... and ultra-fast suicide when it all goes pear-shaped! What I'm kind of afraid of is that due to some fancy...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
That's quite a list. Thanks! I'll give it a try.LittleBear wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:59 pmI've put my personal installs in a code tag below. I don't feel any of these unbalance the game (but it is very much personal choice) and they give you interesting things to do and speed up gameplay a lot.

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
I would highly recommend you try it; I’ve done two broken adder starts and it’s always a blast. It’s also one of the better ways to improve your skill, particularly with a keyboard. Just make sure to remap yaw to “a” and “d” and injectors to “q,” because you’ll be using those a lot. Thanks I'll try...

Re: Combat is too hard with a keyboard
As best I remember all the random hits ships are standard, but the higher paying ships have a higher chance of having equipment fitted. Oolite is fair in that any weapons OXPs you install are also available to NPCs. If you have Thargoid's mini-missiles installed (which allows you to have 3 micro mi...
