Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
I forgot to add you need at least a 400 watt power supply for that video card. I had to replace my 250 watt one.

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
No problem at all Hoggy. I was surprised to find a 1 GB card for a PCI when the best I could find from ATI was only 256 MB. I got the card from an eBay seller for US $104, free shipping included. If you don't do eBay reputable online sites such as NewEgg has it too at similar prices. http://www.newe...

Re: YOUR AD HERE!!! 300 ads (sets A, B, C, D, E, F & G)
I'm trying different Oolite plug-ins now that I have a video card and I must say YAH is very funny and creative. Kudos to the community as a whole. Will the fix for nearly crashing into a billboard after jumping be out at around the time H and I roll out? It is but a minor gameplay issue for me, but...

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
No, it is indeed PCI. My computer doesn't have any PCI-E slots (I wish). I agree with you that speed will never be ideal, but Oolite is performing fantastically and I'm more than satisfied with my upgrade. http://www.jaton.com/VGA/graphics_card_detail.php?pid=182 EDIT: found the correct URL for the ...

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
Thank you to everyone who responded in this thread. I researched NVIDIA and ATI drivers and I realized that the old ATI PCI card I bought (256 MB) wasn't even compatible with Windows 7. NVIDIA has a 1 GB PCI card (GeForce 9500 GT) that is still supporting Windows 7. I just installed it a few minutes...

Re: Disable buoys in Strict Mode?
That sounds like the better version of the Newtonian flight model loved so much by Frontier fans and hated so much by original Elite players.

Symbols in Strict Mode's short range chart?
I have another Strict Mode suggestion if no one mind: Would it be possible to add symbols to the short range chart (that show up by pressing i on the keyboard) in Oolite's Strict Mode? I feel those government/economy symbols are a great time-saver and don't directly affect the Elite-flavored gamepla...

Re: Disable buoys in Strict Mode?
I agree with you that it is a fine line. I think there is still plenty to make Oolite Strict somewhat different from the original Elites, such as docking (much more work in Oolite), fluctuating market prices in the same planet at different times, real-time clock during all aspects of unpaused...

Re: David Braben's Raspberry Pi PC gets ready to launch
That would be very cool. I can see the wireframe graphics Oolite uses being used for Raspberry and anything more than that would be icing on the cake!

Disable buoys in Strict Mode?
Apologies if it has been posted/discussed before, but would it be possible to disable navigational buoys in Strict Mode? I don't believe the original Elite games had those. While they are tremendously helpful for newbies, experienced players should be manually OK docking without one. Just a random t...

Re: David Braben's Raspberry Pi PC gets ready to launch
What a misleading thread title... Braben didn't actually develop that PC; he is merely one of the lightning rods attracting attention to that little thing (gotta do something while he waits for more people to work on Elite 4 with.) I have never heard of the Raspberry Pi until reading this thr...

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
Try not having Excel loaded? All processes and applications were off. I tried the few optimizing tools the program has but the game was slow when I approach planets. The game was very smooth when I turn off graphic details, though. Now I'm not sure if the game sometimes hangs/crashes in the ...

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
One tip I would give, as an owner of a slow computer, is to find a program called Game Booster. This program maximises system performance by closing unnecessary system processes. It can restore them again when you have finished playing. I've found my frame rate improves from stuttering, to playable...

Re: Minimum system requirements for maximum graphics?
I forgot to add in my original post that when I turn planet details on, the gameplay became choppier the closer and more prominent in my display a planet or space station is. It got to the point that docking was too difficult because the station's rotation was so choppy that I couldn't properly ali...
