Re: [RELEASE] Povray Planets 1.0

I'm enjoying the scenery in Gal4. Some of the planets looks a bit meh, but only by comparison to the gorgeous ones with interesting coastlines and clouds and things. There's an appreciable hiccough when launching or jumping, but nothing lethal.

Re: Relative Difficulty

Jumped out of Witchspace to find a Thargoid Carrier waiting for me. I threw lasers at it, then saw spit something out. 'Oh, a Thargon', I thought, then 'No, that's a Thar goid '. Fortunately it only got to spit one out before I toasted it. 2000Cr well-earned. Pirates are getting more fractious now, ...

Re: Relative Difficulty

I think I'd tried using the retro-rockets, but without huge success. Weren't they higher tech than escape pods anyway? I think I got lucky twice at Corporate States, getting to the station without any other ships appearing. At least we could shoot down missiles on the Amiga.

Relative Difficulty

What're everyone's experiences of how difficulty changes in different versions (or remakes) of Eilte? Apart from Oolite, I've only played the Amiga version of Elite. Pirates were easier to deal with on the Amiga because they conned hostile as soon as they were in scanner range. Not sure if that was ...

I do hope that's just another typo.
It's not called 'random hits' for nothing...

Trader R'kr Ohl:
"We're no strangers to Lave."
Got the Cobby back, now nearly fully equipped again. Considering taking passengers, but the trips are all so long. Might go looking for more missions, now. I want those naval energy banks.

Re: Damaged Systems

Ah, I'd forgotten that the Mamba was a high-performance ship. Well, as soon as I can find a Cobra Mk III for sale I'll be back in one of those, so I'll have to get used to different turning. I can't cope with cumulative mouse control at all. Although today I scooped '1t of William Shatner Records', ...

Re: Damaged Systems

I'll experiment with it. It feels a little close to cheating, giving me more time to do stuff as well as impr9oving precision. I wonder if it would be possible to hack in a modifer key that reduces the change in pitch/yaw values when the keys are pressed?

Re: Damaged Systems

Today's haul- 198g of gem-stones in a single bulk container.

Also, now getting really good at taking out swarms of pirates again. Still wish the controls were less twitchy, though.

Re: Damaged Systems

Things have got a lot better now that I've given up and got a rear laser, and recovered some of the old skills. I remapped the keys so that the arrows are pitch and yaw, and that makes it easier to seek targets to snipe at. The controls seems very twitchy, though. Often it's impossible to get a Geck...

Re: Artificial Gravity and Space Stations,

Even with artifical gravity, stations might rotate to provide gyroscopic stability. After all, plenty of tonnage must move about in there - particularly when loading and unloading ships. Spinning might cut down on the use of station-keeping thrusters.

Re: Damaged Systems

I like the idea of systems getting damaged, but I find it happens a tad too often for my tastes. Delving into the source, there's a constant defined that seems to affect how often damage to the energy banks will cause system damage. It might be cute if that factor varied by which energy bank you wer...
