Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

This depends on how fast any FTL communication actually is. In my brain, anyway, the fastest way to send information in the ooniverse is to put it on a ship and have it flown to another system. Way faster than EM waves, but still not instantaneous. Multiple hours for the information to travel even ...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

{1} The date 2084004 that you start from is listed in Oolite docs as days since the "epoch". If Oolite is set in about 3150 AD, then that puts the epoch at about -2555 BC, which is an ... unusual choice of start date. "Completion of the Great Pyramid of Giza" is about the only m...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

For me the main point of GalCop was always that it's an incredibly low-key organization. Now that you mention it, this view does fit the GalCop I roam around in within the vanilla game more than the GalCop I've read about in the Oolite Saga that goes around assassinating people left and right/ :lol...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

Canon = fanon for Oolite, pretty much ... one person's canon is another person's hooey! Partly it's a product of so many OXPs: everyone gets to build their own universe, and their own canon too. If you like it, you keep it! Just be advised that combining the Frontierverse with even the vanilla Ooni...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

Not directly related to this Thargoid discussion, but mention has been made of a Federation and an Empire. I must point out that such things do not exist in either Elite or Oolite. They are 'devices' invented to give a different computer game a bit of backward compatibility with the original Elite....

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

I think the level of the Thargoid threat depends on what people think "the Galactic Co-operative" actually is. At one end, you've got the Star Trek Federation model, smart and smug and organised, all shiny teeth and bri-nylon uniforms; at the other, you've got a ramshackle series of tradi...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

Okay, so firstly I will agree with you that a single basic Thargoid warship is not that much of a threat to a good pilot with a military laser. However, if we're talking invasion rather than scouts then we're looking at a bigger force - several warships, plus some cruisers or battleships. The cruis...

Re: Mark III Cobbie Appreciation Thread!

Hopefully it will last a little longer than the Wellsian namesake did too. Interesting tidbit of information: Sagasa is a word in my native language that means "Crash". I thought naming my ship Thunder Child would be appropriate. :D Sadly, it seems someone has already beaten me to it... L...

Re: Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

It's been covered here: What Thargoids are up to?! https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9627 ...and also mentioned here: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11520#p162710 Also with my mod, Thargoids in interstellar space may follow the player through their next jump. Those in...

Love the name! :)

I'm thinking of naming mine the Thunder Child.

Wonder if anyone'll get the reference?

Are Thargoids really all that threatening?

Fluff tells us that the Thargoids are the singe greatest threat to the three great galactic entities: The Cooperative, the Federation, and the Empire; so much so that when a Thargoid raiding party (something akin to a Luftwaffe attack in the Battle of Britain) appears, every single ship immediately ...

Re: Mark III Cobbie Appreciation Thread!

Hmmm, have you considered expanding on this and putting it in the fiction section. Ah, I apologize. I was a bit unsure of where to post this since the above really did happen to me. I just decided to relate it from my commander's point of view to get into the spirit of things and perhaps get others...

Mark III Cobbie Appreciation Thread!

In this thread, we honor the humble Mark III Cobra. Ever reliable and versatile, just about every combateer has flown one at some time or another. Sure there are other ships that are faster or bigger, but no other ship has managed to combine all the vital elements in such a perfect, well-rounded pac...
