I've often landed on a planet's surface in Oolite. If you get to the surface, you can see blue sky, and the stars disappear. ...however, there is quite a large kinetic energy transfer involved in landing, which tends to have a detrimental effect on my ship... Meanwhile, in the on-topic part of...

A device that hides your ship when the engines are turned off?

Like some kind of cloaking device! Interesting.

I'm not entirely sure that was the case (certainly in BBC Elite).

I like the present system, where you can dock, but you may be fined.
It would make sense for pernicious offenders to be heavily taxed, and for GalCops to really come down hard on you if you attack the station etc.

but why destroy it,
1. It's the only language they understand.
2. That'll learn'em.
3. They won't do that again in a hurry.

I usually kill all the pirates, then dock, refuel, buy cheap precious things, and then destroy the cove as I leave.

Mmmmwwa ha ha ha!

For my money, the Josher represents excellent value. 6 missile racks, a good top speed and a load of space. Obviously, anyone can create an OXP and specify cost price, cargo capacity and max speed however they want. However, there ought to be some balance / trade-off, however. It's not formalised (p...

WARNING: SPOILER

The thing with trumbles is that it's not just about getting them too hot.
There is a specific "Goldilocks" heat at which they fry. You just have to find it. It varies from star to star.

Does anyone remember the RPG Traveller? When designing ships, engines and weapons would take a certain amount of room from your total hull displacement. The more powerful the engine and weapons, the more space they took. Anything left over was cargo space. I just mention it as it seems to be the dir...

I love seeing the variety of ships.

It gets a bit tedious if freighters are always Anacondas escorted by Cobra Is, and pirates are always Kraits.

Either tune down the OXP or remove it; but putting a 50% choke in the game is limiting for those who enjoy an infinite universe.

BBC Elite definitely had "Right On, Commander!" messages every 256 kills.

"What happens next year, when it's out of date?
"No chance, Dad: this is MSX, mate!
Hello, Tosh, gotta Toshiba?"

Doh! Giles cuts through the nonsense once again.

Yes, using <shift> m would be great. That way, the original behaviour is retained, and the new behaviour is there if you want it.

M for missile

In reading another thread about how the multiple targeting system works, I had an idea. Currently, with the MTS, you can select missiles in turn and lock them onto different (or the same) targets. But to fire them off, you have to rotate through again and press 'M' for each missile. Do people feel i...

I'd also like to call for continued support of 10.3.9, if it's not too much trouble. (Though I'd probably fork out for Tiger just to play Oolite!)

Linotype FontExplorer claims to be Universal and 10.3.9 +, so it should be possible. Great product, btw.

Yep, I'm True Brit, and was digitally suckled on the BBC Micro -- the best 8-bit box of all time. (Discuss. 800 words.) Formative years spent in front of Elite in a darkened cellar, with Jean Michelle Jarre playing on a Compact Audio Cassette player. Started to reverse engineer / disassemble the ori...
