Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

So there I was, casually doing some trading while closing on my Random Hits target in a relatively safe system going towards the station when suddenly I get mass-locked. I check my scanner and think to myself: "That green blip ahead looks a bit like a Fuel Station, but something's wrong... Oh, ...

Re: Pylons and what you carry?

Only 4 pylons on my Cobby, and I usually carry 2 salvage droids for dredging and 2 hardheads when I really need to get my "message" through. Would love to get some more pylons, though. I know plenty of situations when an extra fuel tank would come in handy, and I'd like some repair bots, t...

Re: Planet Hopping...

Another good thing about planet hopping is that it's a good way to rid the galaxy of some of the more cunning pirates that hide in the glare of the sun. Hop to a system, set your course for the sun, kill every pirate in the way, scoop up and hop again. While I do admit it takes a bit of roleplaying ...

Re: Maneuverability Preferences

I remember a game way back on the C64 called Steel Thunder. It was a pretty sophisticated tank simulator game for its time. It had a 3-step toggle for the aiming sensitivity and was a great help when firing the main gun of a MBT. The default setting did not modify the sensitivity of the controls, th...

Re: Maneuverability Preferences

I play with the keyboard on a relatively small laptop, so sniping is not an option for me. I'm flying a Cobra mk.3 and it has all the manouverability that I need. I'd actually prefer a more cumbersome ship to do some sniping and have more meaningful dogfights.

Re: Interplanetary "Finances"

It makes me smile (ruefully) how many players bypass the mechanisms that make the game what it is - how much money, equipment you start with. Dealing with the consequences of becoming Offender (even accidentally). Knowing you can hack your file and resisting the urge to do so... I don't know, to ea...

Re: Interplanetary "Finances"

I trade in the most hostile systems there are. Surprisingly, many feudal systems have proven to be safe havens when compared to some multi-governments. Anyways, my main source of income comes from robbing thieves (scooping up pirate cargo), sour milk runs (trading between hostile systems) and head h...

Re: Dream Weapon (No, I'm not proposing another OXP here)

This is a humble attempt to get this thread back to its subject. My ideal weapon would be something similar to the R4M-Orkan salvo-fired anti-aircraft rocket found in (for example) German Me-262s during WW2. The rocket was designed to be fired in a saturation salvo into a bomber formation from beyon...

Re: Feature requests for Oolite 2.0

I don't believe the removal of the Torus Drive will effect sun skimming/fuel scooping in any way. When I was just a rookie in Oolite, I first bought Fuel Scoops to my Cobra because it was irritating to see all the free money just floating in space. I also thought that fuel was expensive, so I decide...

Re: Oolite Darwin Awards

My ship's now in pretty good shape and I'm hunting the Constrictor in Gal 2, but without any clues I'm feeling a bit bored. I think to myself "I've got a couple of hardheads on board, why not try to meet some thargoids to toast?". So instead of making the jump normally I try to force a mis...

Re: Feature requests for Oolite 2.0

#81. A series of rectangles or some other on-screen visible guide that'd help novices dock. Seriously - what is it about docking? Fly as close as you can to the beacon - orient to station - fly in at a decent speed nudging rotation if you need to - and that's it. I concur. Docking is one of the cor...

Re: Carn't explain Oolite to the wife

Last night (translated from finnish), as I was already cruising the space lanes:

Wife - What are you up to?
Me - Well, I'm just vaporising some space pirates here.
W - Well, bag one of those big ones for me, ok?
M - Will do.
W - That's my predator, keep it up!

Love > just about anything.

Re: Picking up escape pods

Well I just had a complete attitude overhaul towards picking up escape pods. I have Deep Space Dredgers installed, and the OXP occasionally spawns a field of derelict spacecraft "after a big battle", with recently launched escape pods to boot. It seems that most of the ejected participants...

Re: Feature requests for Oolite 2.0

Financial options when purchasing a spacecraft. Things like down payments, income deductions on account, monthly instalments, premiums, interest etc. I know we now have the Black Monks, but it's an OXP and their methods are financially speaking rather unrefined. In the Ooniverse it would only make s...

Re: Objective oriented?

This board is friendly... and fast :D Must be because many of you seem to be from Europe like me. Anyways, I have no intention of cheating my way into stardom. I'd just like to try something a bit brutish - a ship that has a turning radius of a small moon, but enough cargo space and engines to reall...
