Ahah! Please let me know which - and I'll try and fix it.
For instance https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/BGS#B ... Groove_OXP does not have a link
Thank you!

Fixed!! (and I also added in a couple of other missing links to the page, as well as a link to Halsis.oxp).

By the way, PAGroove's soundset is much better than the others (unless you share Keeper's distaste for the "Items bort" proclamation).

Halsis is also worth a look.

The issue is with the domain name only, right? Not the IP that it resolves to?

Would it be possible on the player end to fiddly-wink around and re-point the manager check to the IP number instead of the name? (Moot point if that IP isn't static, I suppose.)

Lists of OXPs on the wiki (the OXPs should all have download links apart from those on the "list of lost OXPS") are here: https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Category:OXP_Lists
not all of them has download links. For instanse https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/BGS#B ... Groove_OXP does not have a link
For the complete set of download links, check the OoliteExpansionIndex. Each of the zip archives contains metadata for all the expansions available at that time. So we definitely have a searchable inventory of OXZs, as they used to be accessible through the download manager.
https://github.com/HiranChaudhuri/Oolit ... r/releases

I went this one step and ran

Code: Select all

$ grep oolite.org/ expansions/*
grep: expansions/oolite.core.html: binary file matches
expansions/oolite.oxp.another_commander.ZaonceIsVenus8k.html: <td><a href="http://oolite.org/oxzs/ZaonceIsVenus8k.oxz">http://oolite.org/oxzs/ZaonceIsVenus8k.oxz</a></td>
expansions/oolite.oxp.rustem.assassin_shipset_pack.html: - http://roolite.org/coriolis/viewtopic.php?f=10&amp;t=720&amp;sid=9f99a5e23a4bcc3da6c3db1e1d0d8e51
expansions/oolite.oxp.SMax.FuelGenerator.html:Available in [Oolite](http://www.oolite.org/) package manager (Equipment).
expansions/oolite.oxp.SMax.ZeroMap.html:Available in [Oolite](http://www.oolite.org/) package manager (Mechanics).
expansions/oolite.oxp.tsoj.chrysopelea_mk-i.html:Oolite: http://www.oolite.org/
expansions/oolite.oxp.tsoj.himsn.html:## An expansion pack for [Oolite](http://www.oolite.org/).
expansions/oolite.oxp.zzz.Montana05.Far_Arms_Ships.html:Oolite: inspired by ELITE by Ian Bell and David Braben (http://www.oolite.org/).
$
So we can see it is just a handful of OXZs that reference the oolite.org domain, and only one that really downloads from http://oolite.org/oxzs/ZaonceIsVenus8k.oxz.

So even for this forum we do not know whether it is safe. Better evacuate now.

I suggest someone open a new location where discussions can move on and use the remaining time to tell all the users about it.
For example it would be small effort to simply activate wiki and discussion functionality on the Github project https://github.com/OoliteProject/oolite

There is this: https://spacesimcentral.com/community/oolite/

I don't know how well it works...

Yeah I thought the worst when that happened and I couldn't get the forum and subsequently uninstalled Oolite :?
I am still finding now that aegidian.org is hit and miss with my web browser, as others have already said it seems very unstable at present.

Figuring out how to "harden" the expansion manager I think is priority #1. Losing that functionality basically kills the game. (Yes, I know most of the expansions are on the wiki, but that's hard consolation when you're trying to sift through thousands of them for updates.)

The expansion manager will still work as long as it was used before the site went down and the file "<OoliteInstallFolder>\oolite.app\GNUstep\Library\Caches\org.aegidian.oolite\Oolite-manifests.plist" exists (if this file does not exist in the aforementioned location, a relatively recent copy can be found here: https://we.tl/t-JwPdCAHSY6 - just download and drop it in its place). If the game asks you to update the OXP list just tell it to keep the existing one and then you can use the Expansion Manager normally.

Of course, you will not be able to receive updates to existing OXPs or new OXPs, but no OXP list updates are expected anyway while oolite.org is down.

I don't understand how these things work.

But is not the information for oolite.org stored on the GitHub site?

Could somebody who understands all this is just "take over" the old address and put our website back? I'd be perfectly happy to contribute some dosh for the process!

First of all (as mentioned above)
status of domain is clientHold (https://icann.org/epp#clientHold)

So...
Often, this status indicates an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your registrar to resolve the issue. If your domain does not have any issues, but you need it to resolve, you must first contact your registrar and request that they remove this status code.
Can anybody (not so bad english as my) - try email to registrar(https://www.ascio.com/) and ask - what happen?
I understand that there is little chance that they will answer - but still there is hope ...

OoliteProject/oolite-web ?
but without the DB data it will be empty :(
Сan be installed on another VPS. If the DB has data only about OXPs, it can be filled with parsing Oolite-manifests.plist... But there are no users table. All these problems can be solved, but IMHO should try to find an easier way.
Most importantly - all these works will not return the domain, and only makes sense when changing the domain and server :(

need to understand what is happening with the domain :(

BUT have a some good news: domain not bind to server, but server is well. I got IP of server (was not trivial task),
so... all can bind ip to domain at self computer - magic file hosts:

195.74.38.129 oolite.org www.oolite.org addons.oolite.org

now oolite.org opened in browser(may not open immediately due to caching) and oolite manager can update packs, but that's little consolation...

If anybody has access to server - plz backup data.

That's the thing - the server at the bare IP is (apparently) fine, it's just the domain name that's gone/down/suspended/missing/whatever you want to call an ex-parrot.

The long-term solution (or at least longer-term) would be to replace the name with the IP address in all the places where the name appears, so that this cannot happen again. And if the domain name cannot be restored, or it gets taken over by a bad actor when the hold expires, it's the only solution. (Well, it would be possible to assign a new name to the IP number, of course, but that seems like a less than smart idea given that we already know it's possible to lose the domain as people leave the orbit of Oolite development.)

Meanwhile, here's how to edit the hosts file on Windows:

For what it's worth, I have access to the DB. Haven't tried exporting anything, but it's still accessible and all the data is still there (which is why the in-game manager will still work if you have a recent copy of it and don't try to update it).
